Social Welfare / Business Administration

Hello everyone. My name is Youngcheol Cho and I am double majoring in Social Welfare and Business Administration. I very much appreciate being selected as a representative of the UN College Leaders Program. As I've grown up, I have observed the many inequalities between high-income and low-income countries in the media and how it has resulted in serious global problems including terrorism and the refugee crisis. These continuous problems of inequality will interrupt the prosperity of all countries. This has led me to have a great interest in international affairs as I want help find solutions that create peace in all nations and I believe I can do this while participating in this program. I’m excited to learn everything this program will provide and I believe it will be one of the most rewarding experiences of my life! Thank you.

Hanna Choi (최한나)

Business Administration / International Studies

My name is Hanna Choi from Seoul Women’s University, double majoring in Business Administration and international studies. First of all, it is a great honor to participate as one of the representatives of Korean youth. Through this WFUNA program, I hope I could learn, share ideas, and discuss with other fellow delegates about the practical application of SDGs. Since I am now working in the global independent student organization named AIESEC, I usually search and review the projects made by the world youth. And those projects are generated for the local communities where they belong to, based on the SDGs issues. So naturally, based on my works, the application of SDGs globally including Korean society is now becoming the main interest of mine. Among them especially, I have high interests on SDGs #4 Quality Education, educational issues in developing countries and international cooperation to deal with those in detail. This is deeply related to my belief that everyone has potential to make the world better with one little turning point. And I strongly believe that education can be the point. Again, with great honor and excitement, I can’t wait to start our projects in New York. Thank you.

Biotechnology

As a biotechnology major, my primary interest lies in the sustainability of global health and the proper application of science technology in the best way that benefits society. Experiences in participating many other international summits as a Korean delegate, hosting public lectures, managing translation works and holding mentoring sessions related to the aforementioned field of interests has helped me broaden my understanding of how science and society works. I hope my activities can further encourage the participation of science majors in international discussions because I strongly believe that this will enable contribution to the community through sharing intrinsic perspectives based on their specialties. Looking forward to spending a great time with fellow delegates, sharing values and diverse perspectives to understand UN and the international society through the program with WFUNA!

Bola Ju (주보라)

Handong Global University

Urban Planning / Environmental Engineering

I am a senior student from Handong Global University, majoring Urban Planning & Environmental Engineering. As I lived abroad from first to tenth grade in a developing country, my biggest dream was to dedicate my learning not only for developed country but also for developing country. While learning about "Urban Networking" theory, I got to know that there are two reasons forming networks: vertical and horizontal network. Horizontal network is a more "general way" to link countries so that they can grow in a uniform and equitable way. Through research, I found that the "Sustainable Development Goals" set by the United Nations were playing that role which is aligned with my interest. My latest goal is to become an urban planner and policy maker to form a more sustainable and equitable urban environment for our country as well as for other developing countries.

Adult – Gerontology Primary Care

I finished my Master's degree at NYU College of Nursing and I became a Primary Care Nurse Practitioner in May, 2017. I was raised in a family that believes serving others is not a choice, but a commitment. I realize that there are many who can only dream of having what I have, and I understand it is my responsibility to share and help others. I started my nursing career at Republic of Korea Armed Forces Army Hospital as a nursing officer. The experience working with the patients and people who lack quality health care and were suffering from serious health problems convinced me continuously of my strong inner desire for knowledge. For this reason, I pursued my master degree of nursing at NYU. I have volunteered to help refuges, Native Americans, families and individuals who were experiencing medical problems, life crisis, adjustment problems, economic hardship, and acculturation in various settings. Most of them were under-served, high-risk, and newly immigrated populations. I plan to work for under-served population as a nurse practitioner Also, I would like to contribute my knowledge and skills to develop successful health care delivery system and health care policy as well as educate health care professionals to deliver high quality services to those in need.

Minseo Kim (김민서)

George Mason University Korea

Business Management

When I was little, I just vaguely dreamed of becoming a person who works worldwide. Not particularly caring about who or what kind of "person" that will be, I wanted to become someone who will have a great role in the international society. Even now, my fundamental goals have not changed since then. But it became more precise of how I am going to contribute to the world. As nations continue to rapidly interconnect, they not only gain benefits but also face diverse conflicts. And these are the types of conflicts that I want to work with as a global leader. I want to make an effort to give them equal rights and alleviate inequality. I am confident with the fact that I have taken the right path in preparing to enter the international society, and I am taking every step to get closer to my goal. Thus, I firmly believe that joining UN Association as a representative of a Korean college is the next step that I have make. As a multilingual millennial northeast Asian, my position in this field will boost up the connection between nations and nations, and will strongly bond the world nations together.

Although I basically grew up in the US, I did do my Korean military service in the Special Forces. I am also an avid sports player. I have competitively swum and been doing mixed martial arts (MMA) since I was very little. Lastly, I love to travel around the world and eat desserts.
